Indian Army NCC Special Entry – Eligibility Criteria (Detailed)

The Indian Army is extremely strict regarding eligibility. A single discrepancy can lead to the cancellation of your candidature. Please read the following criteria carefully.

1. Nationality

A candidate must be an unmarried male or unmarried female and must be either: (i) A citizen of India, or (ii) A subject of Nepal, or (iii) A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

2. Age Limit (As on 01 July 2026)

Birth Date Range Born not earlier than 02 July 2001 and not later than 01 July 2007 (both dates inclusive).

3. Educational Qualification

  • Degree Holders: Degree of a recognized University or equivalent with aggregate of minimum 50% marks taking into account marks of all the years.
  • Final Year Students: Permitted to apply provided they have secured minimum 50% aggregate marks in the first two/three years. They must submit proof of passing the degree exam with minimum 50% marks by 01 Oct 2026.

4. NCC ‘C’ Certificate Requirements

This is the most critical requirement for this entry. Wards of Battle Casualties are exempted from this.

Selection Procedure: The Path to OTA

There is no written exam. The selection is based on shortlisting followed by the 5-Day SSB Interview.

Stage Description
1. Shortlisting Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) reserves the right to fix a cut-off percentage of marks for shortlisting applications. Only shortlisted candidates are emailed the Call Up letter.
2. SSB Interview Held at Selection Centres: Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka), or Jalandhar (Punjab).

  • Stage I: Screening (OIR Test + PPDT).
  • Stage II: Psychology Tests, GTO Tasks, and Personal Interview (4 days).
3. Medical Exam Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a thorough medical check-up.
4. Merit List The final merit list is based only on SSB marks. Education marks are only for shortlisting.

  1. Visit the official website: www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
  2. Click on ‘Officer Entry Apply/Login’ and then click ‘Registration’ (if not already registered).
  3. After registration, go to your Dashboard and click ‘Apply Online’.
  4. The system will display the ‘Officers Selection – Eligibility’ page. Enter your details to see the NCC Special Entry link. Click ‘Apply’.
